Eagles geared to tangle with

Uvalde Coyotes

100th All-Time Season Opener

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity football team under the direction of head football coach Tom Gonzalez will kick-off the program’s historic 100th Texas High School all-time football season opener on Thursday, August 29, 2019 when they host the Uvalde Coyotes in a 7:00 PM non-district gridiron matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The visiting Uvalde Coyotes under the direction of head coach R.T. Gonzales return the services of 7 offensive and 7 defensive starters back from a squad that finished with an overall season record of 2-8. The Coyotes offense will have Domingo Davila #1 as the starting quarterback who throws and runs the offense very well with a quick release and likes to run a fast pace no huddle offense. Their featured back will be Sotero Martinez #21 who is a great athlete a tough hardnosed runner who must be contained and can be quite elusive. The fullback will be Julian Valdez a very good blocker, D’Andre Carroll #81 will be the slot back a very tall and fast receiver with excellent hands and their main threat in their passing scheme, Donovan Amaya #80 is the X-Receiver who is very quick, smart and tends to get open, Marcus De La Cruz #3 is the Z-Receiver who runs good routes and has good hands. The Coyotes vastly improved offensive line will be comprised by Julian Ortiz at left tackle, Irwin Plata #64 at left guard, Samuel Lara #60 at center, right guard (name not on roster) while Peyton Carnes will be the right tackle.

The Eagles offense under the leadership of offensive coordinator Javier Cardenas will feature Allan Rodriguez #7 as the starting quarterback, Jose Hernandez #29 as the featured tailback, The X-Receiver will be Chris Hiller #18 with David Lopez #13 and Dakota Kypuros #14 sharing time as the Wing Back, Carlos Santos #5 will be the Slot Back and Cgc Ritchie #11 will be the Z-Receiver. The Eagles offensive line will be comprised by Arnie Perez #66 at right tackle, Emmanuel Jimenez #74 at right guard, David Cortez #60 at center, Emmanuel Balderas #61 at left guard and Alex Martinez #65 at left tackle. Erick Ramirez #35 will handle both the punting and placekicking duties for the Eagles.

The Eagles perennially hard hitting defense under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Roger Olivas will feature stellar Charlie Schuessler #44 as the Anchor End, veteran Andres Conde #42 as the Nose Tackle, Santana Martinez #56 at Defensive Tackle, MJ McGehee #24 and Nathan Aguilera #48 splitting time at the Defensive End slot, Joe Samaniego #28 as the Sam Linebacker, Jacob Salinas #45 as the Mike Linebacker, Saul Perales #21 will be the Willie Linebacker, David Lopez #13 as one of the Defensive Corners Kristian Barcena #2 as the Free Safety, Mando De Los Santos #1 and Jacob Ruiz #4 alternating as the Strong Safety, and Isaac Caballero #3 and Orly Martinez #12 taking turns at the other Defensive Corner slot.
