The potent and highly talented Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars under the leadership of manager Robert De La Garza and assistant coaches Morris Libson, Jr. and David Lopez ventured to Demopolis, Alabama on Thursday, August 8, 2019 to compete in the high caliber 2019 Babe Ruth League 14 year old division World Series.

The Southwest Regional champion Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars culminated World Series play finishing as the overall 3rd place team out of 10 teams in the this high caliber tournament and were eliminated in the second game of the single elimination championship round but the local youths received great compliments from the tournament directors as well as the local folks from Demopolis, Alabama for their classy style of play, great sportsmanship and for their professional demeanor on and off the playing field.

Individually Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-star centerfielder Issac Stanwick who had an outstanding tournament and Utility man Robert De La Garza were selected to the prestigious All-World Series team. Selected to the All World Series defensive team were centerfielder Issac Stanwick, first baseman Diego Martinez and right fielder Donovan Becerra..

The potent hard hitting Southwest Regional champion Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-star roster were comprised by Robert De La Garza, Donovan Becerra, Luis Kancheff, Pedro Fernandez, Diego Martinez, Juan Martinez, Alex Paniagua, Kyle Gloria, Issac Stanwick, Jose Duran, Aiden Lopez and Derek Ruiz.

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars concluded tournament action at the 2019 Babe Ruth League 14 year old division World Series with a remarkable overall record of 4 wins with 2 losses. Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates all of these very talented future Mavericks and Eagles varsity baseball players as well as their entire coaching staff for their outstanding accomplishment at the 2019 Babe Ruth 14 year old division World Series and we thank each of you for representing the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas with pride, dignity and class and we wish each of you continued success in all of your respective future endeavors. POOL PLAY

GAME 1

In their opening round of pool play the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars tangled with Nashua, New Hampshire the New England Regional champion in a 4:15 pm matchup at the Soggy Bottom Lodge Baseball Field on Thursday, August 8 2019. The New England Regional squad who were the designated visiting team broke into the scoring column with a pair of runs in the top half of the third inning on two walks a sacrifice fly and only one hit.

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars countered with a lone run in the bottom of the third as stellar centerfielder Issac Stanwick led off the frame with a solid fence rattling triple and then raced to home courtesy of a passed ball to narrow their deficit to a single run.

In the bottom of the fourth the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars erupted with a big five run production to take the lead for good in this contest with Juan Martinez and Kyle Gloria belting back to back two out base hits, Donovan Becerra drew a walk to load the bases, Issac Stanwick also drew a walk to force in the game tying run, Luis Kancheff stroked an RBI single to drive in Kyle Gloria, Jose Duran drew a bases load walk to bring home Donovan Becerra, Robert De La Garza then connected with a two RBI single to drive in Issac Stanwick and Kyle Gloria to the give the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars a 6 to 2 lead.

New England could only answer with one lone run in the top of the fifth but it was not enough as the Eagle Pass 14 year old all-stars prevailed by the final score of 6 to 3 with Donovan Becerra earning the pitching victory and was also selected the Player of the Game for the Eagle Pass squad.

GAME 2

The second game of pool play pitted the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars against Phenix City, Alabama in a 7:00 PM diamond encounter on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Webb Baseball Field. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 14 year old squad broke into the scoring column with a lone run in the top of the second with Diego Martinez stroking a single and coming around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Aiden Lopez. The local all-stars extended their lead with another lone run in the top of the third with leadoff batter Issac Stanwick belting a single and promptly stole second, with one out Robert De La Garza came through with an RBI single to bring home issac Stanwick to give the EP Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars a 2 to 0 lead early on.

Alabama narrowed their deficit with a lone run in the bottom but the hard hitting EP Babe Ruth 14 year old squad quickly countered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning with Issac Stanwick and Luis Kancheff both reaching on fielding errors by Alabama, with two outs Diego Martinez stroked a clutch two RBI single to drive in both Issac Stanwick and Luis Kancheff to give the EP Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars a 4 to 1 lead.

In the top of the sixth the EP Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars broke the game wide open erupting with a huge five run production with Alex Paniagua, Kyle Gloria and Juan Martinez connecting with back to back to back singles, Issac Stanwick followed with a solid two RBI double to bring home Alex Paniagua and Kyle Gloria, Luis Kancheff reached on an error which allowed Juan Martinez to sore on the play, Robert De La Garza grounded out to shortstop to bring home Issac Stanwick and Luis Kancheff later raced home on a wild pitch to eventually give the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars the well earned 9 to 2 victory over Alabama with Juan Martinez earning the pitching victory and was also selected the Player of the Game.

GAME 3

Third game of pool play saw the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars square-off against West Linn, Oregon the Pacific Northwest Regional champion at 4:15 PM on Saturday August 10, 2019 at Webb Field. This contest proved to be quite a nail biter with the outcome not decided until the ninth inning in a see-saw battle. The West Linn Oregon squad broke open a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the top of the third but the mighty Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars quickly answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth with Luis Kancheff and Robert De La Garza drawing back to back walks with Kancheff later scoring on a passed ball and Robert De La Garza tallying on a ground out to narrow their deficit to only one run.

West Linn, Oregon padded their lead with a lone run in the top of the fifth but true to form the EP Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars countered with a lone run in the bottom of the fifth with Pedro Fernandez leading off the frame with a single, Alex Paniagua laid down a well placed sacrifice bunt to advance Pedro Fernandez over to second, Donovan Becerra reached on an error which enabled Pedro Fernandez to score on the play.

Once again the Pacific Northwest Regional champions extended their lead with a 3 run output in the top of the sixth but the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars also produced a three run outburst in the bottom of the sixth to keep their deficit to a single run. In that frame Robert De La Garza, Derek Ruiz and Diego Martinez each scored a run as West Linn, Oregon maintained a 7 to 6 lead in this game.

The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League all-stars finally tied up the game with a lone run in their final at bat in the bottom of the seventh with Issac Stanwick leading off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Kancheff, with one out Robert De La Garza came through with a clutch RBI single to bring home Issac Stanwick with the game tying run to send this game to extra innings.

In the top of the ninth West Linn, Oregon broke the tie by plating a lone run but the proud and talented Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars valiantly fought back to register a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to come away with the well earned 9 to 8 victory over the Pacific Northwest Regional champions to remain unbeaten in pool play. Alex Paniagua earned the pitching victory and teammate Robert De La Garza was selected the Player of the Game.

In their fourth and final game of pool play, the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars were pitted against Ft. Caroline, Florida the Southeast Regional champion squad in a 4:15 PM matchup on Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Soggy Bottom Lodge Baseball Field. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars who ventured into this game with an unblemished 3-0 mark but unfortunately suffered their first loss in the tournament as the Southeast Regional champion took full advantage of uncharacteristic Eagle Pass fielding errors and control problems from the Eagle Pass pitching staff to come away with the lopsided 10 to 1 victory over the valiant Eagle Pass Babe Ruth 14 year old all-stars who finished pool play with a record of 3-1 good enough to advance to the tournament’s single elimination round as the second seed in their pool. Issac Stanwick was selected the Player of the Game.

SINGLE EIMINATION ROUND

GAME 1

In their opening diamond match of the single elimination round the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars hooked up against Jefferson Town, Kentucky the Midwest Plains Regional champion in an extra inning thriller on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Jefferson Town, Kentucky took the early lead with a lone run in the top of the first the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars immediately answered with a three run production in the bottom of the first with red hot hitting Issac Stanwick leading off the frame with an infield hit, Luis Kancheff was hit by a pitch, Issac Stanwick scampered to third on a passed ball, Robert De La Garza reached safely on a fielder’s choice which enabled Issac Stanwick to score on the play and Luis Kancheff taking third, Robert De La Garza quickly stole second, Diego Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly that allowed Luis Kancheff to tag up and race home on the play, Derek Ruiz stroked and RBI double to drive in Robert De La Garza to give the EP Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars a 3 to 1 lead.

In the bottom of the second the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars extended their lead with a pair of runs with Kyle Gloria and Donovan Becerra reaching base and pulling off a double steal, with two outs Issac Stanwick came through with a clutch two RBI singe to bring home both Kyle Gloria and Donovan Becerra to pad their lead to 5 to 1.

To their credit Jefferson Town, Kentucky battled back to tie the game with a lone run in the top of the fourth, another lone run in the top of the fifth and a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Then they managed to take the lead in this key game with a lone run in the top of the sixth with the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars facing possible elimination as they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh Kyle Gloria led off the frame with a single and promptly stole second, Donovan Becerra drew a walk, Jose Duran laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to third and second respectively, with one out heavy hitting Issac Stanwick was issued an intentional base on balls to load the bases, Luis Kancheff reached on a fielder’s choice enabling Kyle Gloria to score the game tying run on the play to knot up the score board at six runs apiece.

Jefferson Town, Kentucky went down quietly in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth the Eagle Pass 14 year old all-stars had Diego Martinez reach safely on an error, Derek Ruiz also reached on an error, Aiden Lopez was issued an intentional walk to load the bases, Pedro Fernandez came through with a sacrifice fly that allowed Diego Martinez to tag up and race home with the game winning run to give the jubilant Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars the hard fought and well earned 7 to 6 victory with Alex Paniagua earning the pitching victory with a solid job in relief duty on the mound. Issac Stanwick was selected the Player of the Game.

In their second game of the single elimination round the Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars tangled with Chandler, Arizona the Pacific Southwest Regional champion in a 4:30 PM diamond encounter on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Unfortunately Lady Luck was not on the Eagle Pass side in this game as they fell by the final score of 5 to 0 thus eliminating them from advancing to the championship round. The Eagle Pass Babe Ruth League 14 year old all-stars were held to no runs and only four hits in this game. Juan Martinez was credited with the pitching loss and Aiden Lopez was selected the Player of the Game for the Eagle Pass squad.
