Due to severe lightning in the vicinity near the baseball field Game 1 of this opening two out of three series had to be rescheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2019 in Jourdanton, Texas.

GAME 1

In the first game of the best of three series, the Mavericks who were the designated visiting team threatened to score early as Jared Roiz drew a two out walk in the top of the first inning, Mario Galvan followed with a single, both runners advanced into scoring position courtesy of a wild pitch but both runners were left stranded as the next batter grounded out to the pitcher to end the threat.

In the bottom of the second the Boerne Champion Chargers tallied a pair of runs on a pair of uncharacteristic Mavericks and a fielder’s choice to take the 2 to 0 lead in this game. He score remained 2 to 0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Chargers took full advantage of another Mavericks error which prolonged the inning and allowed the Chargers to extend their lead with a five run output in that frame to take a 7 to 0 lead over the Mavericks.

The Mavericks threatened to break into the scoring column in the top of the fifth when Frank Ballones stroked a one out single, with two outs Frank Rivas connected with a single to put runners at the corners but once again the Mavericks could not pull the trigger and stranded both runners which enabled the Boerne Champion Chargers to take game 1 of this series by the final score of 7 to 0.

Although he was tagged with the pitching loss Mavericks starting pitcher Jorge Robledo did more than an amicable job on the mound but Lady Luck was not on the Mavericks side in this game.
