Lady Mavericks Defeat

Floresville Lady Jaguars 8 to 3

Coming off their impressive showing at the Harlandale ISD Softball Tourney, the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks under the guidance of head coach J.J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Escontrias and Fred Paniagua hit the road again on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 with a trip to Floresville, Texas to resume their respective District 28-5A softball diamond battles against the Floresville Jaguars in a 7:00 PM district softball encounter.

After a scoreless pair of innings to open this key district matchup, the home standing Lady Jaguars broke up the scoreless tie with a lone rub in the bottom of the third and another lone run in the bottom of te fourth to take a 2 to 0 lead over the Lady Mavericks.

But the Pride of Southern Maverick County the mighty Lady Mavericks quickly countered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to knot up the score at 2 all with Lady Mavs pitcher Ariana Soto reaching by being hit by a pitch, twin sister Briana Soto reached safely on a fielder’s choice as Ariana Soto advanced safely to second on that play, Thiana Reyes followed with an RBI single to drive in Ariana Soto and Briana Soto scored on an error on that play.

The Lady Jaguars regained the lead with a lone run in the bottom of the fifth but once again the Lady Mavericks stormed back to take the lead for good in this game with a big three run output in the top half of the sixth inning with Anissa Salazar leading off the frame with a solid double, Ana Lopez reached on an error which allowed Amy Flores/Anissa Salazar to score on the play, with two outs Ariana Soto blasted an RBI double to bring home Ana Lopez, Briana Soto followed with an RBI single to drive in Ariana Soto give the Lady Mavericks a 5 to 3 lead over the Lady Jaguars.

For good measure the Lady Mavericks tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning with Mia Uriegas reaching on an error, Anissa Salazar also reached on an error Ana Lopez drew a walk, Martha Garcia stroked an RBI single to drive in pinch runner Ariana Benavidez, Ariana Soto reached on an error enabling Ana Lopez as well as Ariana Soto to score on the play giving the mighty C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks the well earned 8 to 3 victory over the Floresville Lady Jaguars with Angie Escamilla earning the pitching victory in relief of starting hurler Ariana Soto to improve their overall season record to 11-3and even their district mark at 1-1.
