The 2018 Eagle Pass Eagles football team under the tutelage of head football coach Tom Gonzalez finished their season with an overall season record of 9-3 venturing into the post season as the third place representative from District 29-6A The season was thrilling highlights along with a few heartbreaking disappointments but nevertheless the proud mighty Eagles met every challenge head on winning the bi-district championship with a thrilling 34 to 28 overtime victory over the PSJA Bears before being eliminated in the area round by the Brownsville Hanna Golden Eagles by the final score of 28 to 13..

The Eagles showcased the top and stingiest defense in District 29-6A as well as one of the top defensive units in the entire UIL Region IV Class 6A. The Eagles defense only allowed 10 total points in their four home games this season. The Eagles defense were led by their standout outside linebacker David Kypuros who was voted the district’s Defensive Most Valuable Player who recorded a team high 142 total tackles along with stellar Moises Rocha who was selected the district’s Most Outstanding defensive end who registered a team high 14.5 QB Sacks on the year. The Eagles defense snared a whopping total of 16 interceptions this season. Defensive back Nico Moyeda held the district’s top three receivers in check to way below half their average

Offensively the Eagles were led by quarterback Richie Luna who led the team in passing with 1843 yards and connect with an all-time second best single season touchdown passing mark with 21 on the year. Spearheading the Eagles patented ground game were freshman standout running back Jose Hernandez and junior running back Saul Peralez. Rey Rey Mendoza led the Eagles sure handed receiving corps with team highs in both receptions with 42 and in yards with 594.
