The baseball marquee matchup in District 29-6A took place on Friday, April 20, 2018 when the second place Eagle Pass Eagles under the guidance of head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa hosted the third place standing San Antonio Southwest Dragons in a key5:00 PM diamond encounter at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center Polo Moncada Baseball Field. The visiting Southwest Dragons entered this contest in third place in the district race sporting a district mark of 8-4 while the home standing Eagles came in currently in second place in district play with a district record of 9-3.

This game did not start out as planned as the first two Dragons batters reach on back to back base on balls which eventually led to one of the two base runners to come around to score on a sacrifice fly to right field. The Dragons tacked on another lone run in the top of the fourth on a one out Eagles error, a base hit and a wild pitch to take a two to 0 lead over the Eagles.

The Eagles meanwhile just could not mount any scoring threats throughout five complete innings of play as their usually potent offense went silent off of the Dragons starting and eventual game winning hurler who hand cuffed the Eagles with no runs and scattered only five hits in this game.

The Dragons closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on only one base hit and three costly Eagles errors to eventually come away with the 4 to 0 victory over the Eagles. The loss proved costly for the Eagles as a victory would have put them tied for the district lead along with Laredo Alexander who fell to Laredo United South by the final score of 4 to 3. The Eagles district record now falls to 9-4 which even though they now have the same record as Southwest, Southwest is now in second place in district and the Eagles are now in third place due to the fact that the Dragons swept the district series with Eagle Pass two games to none.

The Eagles will now close out their respective 2018 district schedule next Tuesday, April 24, 2018 when they host the Del Rio Rams in a key 7:00 PM District 28-6A baseball diamond matchup.
