The mighty Eagle Pass Lady Eagles varsity girls’ softball team currently tied for third place in the district race with a district mark of 7-4 ventured to Laredo, Texas on Friday, April 6, 2018 to square off against the Laredo United Lady Longhorns currently in fifth place in district play with a district record of 4-7 in a 5:00 PM District 29-6A softball diamond matchup at the United ISD Student Activity Center.

The visiting Lady Eagles which were without the ace pitcher Kaitlin Galvan who did not make the trip due to personal reason continued their dominance over the Lady Longhorns by the final score of 6 to 4 but not with some high tense drama during the entire game mostly due to three very costly errors two of which were simple ground ball errors and one really costly throwing error which nearly cost the Lady Eagles the game allowing the Lady Longhorns to score three unearned runs out of their four runs in this game.

The visiting Lady Eagles opened the scoring in this game with a lone run in the top of the second with Leslie Martinez drawing a walk and stealing second then advancing to third on a passed ball and came home on an RBI groundout off the bat of Kaylynne Ruiz.

The home standing Lady Longhorns countered with a game tying lone run in the bottom of the second courtesy of a Lady Eagles fielding error to knot up the score at one run apiece. The Lady Eagles broke up the tie with another lone run in the top of the third with Lee Ann Dunn drawing a walk, with one out Heather Ruiz belting an RBI single to drive in Lee Ann Dunn to give the Lady Eagles a 2 to 1 lead over the Lady Longhorns. But once again the Lady Longhorns answered with a pair of runs in the in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3 to 2 lead over the Lady Eagles

In the top of the fifth the Lady Eagles answered with a three run output with pinch hitter Lashay Reyes leading off the frame with a single, Lee Ann Dunn sacrificed Lashay Reyes over to second with a well placed bunt, Emily Snyder drew a walk and replaced by pinch runner Kayla Ochoa, Heather Ruiz loaded the base with a walk. Power hitting Brooke Diaz the team’s year long leading hitter and RBI producer came through with a booming two RBI double to drive in Lashay Reyes and Kayla Ochoa, Heather Ruiz later scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Eagles a 5 to 3 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth Alyssa Galvan took over the pitching chores from starting hurler Leenette Krezdorn who did an amicable job inside the circle. Alyssa Galvan held the Lady Longhorns scoreless in the fifth. Lady Eagles padded their lead with a lone run in the top of the sixth with Leslie Martinez stroking a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Eagles a 6 to 3 lad in this game.

The Lady Longhorns narrowed their deficit with a lone run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 6 to 4 in favor of the Lady Eagles who took that lead heading to the bottom of the seventh where the Lady Longhorns mounted a serious threat by loading the bases with two outs but Lady Eagles starting pitcher Leenette Krezdorn reentered the game a closed the door on this game by striking out the final batter looking to give the Lady Eagles the well earned 6 t 4 victory over the Laredo United Lady Longhorns who were officially eliminated from a potential playoff berth with Alyssa Galvan earning the pitching victory and Leenette Krezdorn earning the save. The Lady Eagles thus improve their district record to 8-4and take over sole possession of third place as the Laredo Alexander were barely edged by South San by the narrow margin of 3-1
