Eagles soar past

Laredo LBJ 11 to 0

Mendoza-Heredia-Perry combined shutout

The Eagle Pass Eagles varsity baseball squad mentored by head coach Reynol Mendoza and assistant coaches Henry Silva and Chris Villa resumed district play on Monday, March 12, 2018 with a road trip to Laredo, Texas to angle with the Laredo LBJ Wolves in a 2:00 PM district diamond encounter at the United ISD Student Activity Center.. The visiting Eagle Pass Eagles brought their hitting shoes out for this game scoring early, often, and late enroute to a convincing 11 to 0 two hit shutout with the Eagles pitching trio of starter and game winning hurler Edward Mendoza and relievers Eric Heredia and Victor Perry combining their efforts on the mound to toss a complete game two hitter.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the top half of the very first inning with a pair of runs with Rey Rey Mendoza slapping a leadoff double. With one out Isaac Roque singled, to put runners at the corners, Braulio Rodriguez lifted an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Rey Rey Mendoza, with two outs Hector Montoya singles, Edward Mendoza drew a walk to load the bases, David Lopez also drew a base on ball to bring home Isaac Roque.

In the top of the second the Eagles extended their lead with a lone run with Dee Andre Torres drawing a two out walk, Isaac Roque connected with an RBI double to drive in Dee Andre Torres to give the Eagles a 3 to 0 lead over the Wolves. The Eagles then padded their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third with Hector Montoya and Derek Ibarra coming around to score courtesy of an LBJ error.

The Eagles continued their scoring production in the top of the fifth inning with a three run output with Hector Montoya reaching base on a hit by pitch and taking second on an error, with two outs Derek Ibarra also reached on a hit by pitch, Isaac Gonzalez belted a clutch two out two RBI double to bring home Hector Montoya and Derek Ibarra, Rey Rey Mendoza stroked and RBI single to bring home Isaac Gonzalez to give the Eagles a comfortable 8 to 0 lead in this contest.

In the top of the sixth the Eagles tacked on another lone run with Isaac Roque belting his third of four hits in this game, pinch hitter Caleb Maldonado also singled with Isaac Roque advancing to third courtesy of a wild pitch hitter Victor Perry came through with an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Isaac Roque,

The Eagles then closed out the scoring for the night with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. The Wolves who were handcuffed by the Eagles pitching trio of Edward Mendoza, Eric Heredia and Victor Perry threatened to beak p the shutout in the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases with two outs courtesy of two base on balls and a hit batsman but Eagles young reliever Victor Perry got the final batter to fly out harmlessly to left field to give the Eagles the well earned 11 to 0 victory over the Wolves to even their district mark to 1-1 and improved their overall season record to 3 wins and 12 losses.
