The talented C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks  varsity girls’ softball team under the direction of head coach .J. Iracheta, Jr. and assistant coaches Tony Martinez, Johnny Hernandez, Corina Benavidez and Sergio Esquivel are set to kickoff the program’s 12th overall season in school history.  Last season the Lady Mavericks ventured into the post season for the seventh time in their 11 year history where they defeated Flour Bluff for the UIL Region IV Class 5A bi-district championship and advanced to the UIL Region IV area round.

This coming season the Lady Mavericks are expected to contend for the District 29-5A softball title.  But their priority will certainly be to find replacements for their graduated pitching duo of standout left hander Marychelo Flores who has now taken her standout pitching and hitting talent to the NCAA Division I program the Lady Cats of Texas State University and Connie Hernandez.  The Lady Mavs also need to find a replacement for their graduated talented shortstop Cassandra Flores who has also taken her talent to the collegiate level.

This coming season the Lady Mavericks will reach a major milestone in their storied history. The 2018 Lady Mavericks will predominately be a very young group of talent with the only Senior who will serve as the team captain 3 year letterman and power hitting 3B Daniela Rodriguez. The Lady Mavs bring experience from last year’s playoff team spearheaded by the highly talented the Soto Twins who feature a very potent bat at the plate and solid play out on the field strong, Briana Soto will handle the all important catching duties and twin sister Ariana Soto will handle the equally importing pitching chores.  Ariana will split time with Amy Flores and Angie Escamilla inside the circle. Veteran Martha Garcia another powerful hitter will be competing for the starting job at first base. Jasmin Ballones is a 2 yr letterman who will play LF. Young talented Freshmen Ana Lopez and Thiana Reyes will compete for a starting position at SS. Kayla Sifuentes a strong overall player who has been working at the CF position. Kiana Diaz is another explosive player who is looking for a spot in the OF. Anissa Salazar is a solid player seeking to play as a 2B.

It will be quite exciting to see how this young team will come together as the season  goes, The Lady Mavericks will try and find the puzzle pieces for a run at the District 29-5A championship. The 2018 C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks varsity girls softball team will surely bring plenty of speed at all positions and though they are relatively young the squad brings plenty of experience from having the luxury of playing travel ball and years of hard work on the diamond.

The Lady Mavericks will give the famed Maverick Nation a preview of coming attractions with four scheduled preseason scrimmages the first of which will be on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 when they hook up against the cross town Eagle Pass Lady Eagles in a 7:00 PM scrimmage at the Eagle Pass ISD softball field.  On Friday February 2, 2918 the Lady Mavs will host the Laredo Alexander Lady Bulldogs in a 7:00 PM scrimmage at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.  On Tuesday , February6, 2018 the Lady Mavs will entertain the Laredo LBJ Lady Wolves in a 7:00 PM scrimmage at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.  The Lady Mavericks will then conclude their preseason scrimmages on Friday, February 9, 2018 when they host the Laredo United South Lady Panthers in a 7:00 PM scrimmage at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center softball field.  The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks will kick-off the program’s 12th ever season on  Tuesday, February 13, 2018 when they journey to Laredo, Texas to square off against the Laredo United Lady Longhorns in a :00 PM non=district season opener.
