Carrizo Springs 60 to 37

Silvy Salazar records a double-double

The C.C. Winn Lady Mavericks’ varsity girls hoopsters under the tutelage of head coach Paulo Valero and assistant coaches Federico Paniagua, Julio Cumpian and Tonya Rosas entertained the Carrizo Springs Lady Wildcats on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in a 6:30 PM non-district hard court encounter at the C.C. Winn High School gymnasium.  This game was designated as Parent’s night with the Lady Mavericks honoring and paying tribute to their respective parents in front of an enthusiastic and packed house with the famed Mavericks Nation in attendance.

In the earlier games the Lady Mavericks freshmen squad came away victorious over their Carrizo Springs’ freshmen counterpart by the final score of 37 to 31.  The Mavericks junior varsity squad also won their match against the Carrizo Springs junior varsity team by the dominating score of 50 to 22 and the Lady Mavericks varsity girls’ crew made it a sweep by defeating the Carrizo Springs Lady Wildcats by the final score of 60 to 37 much to the jubilation of the Parents in attendance.

A quite happy head coach Paulo Valero informed to Eagle Pass Sports Central: “We started off a bit sluggish on offense the first 4 minutes, but our defense kept us in the game early and got us a 11-4 lead heading to the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd quarter we managed to get key baskets from Gyselle Rangel, Silvy Salazar and Andrea Aldape. Our inside game was dominating all night long leading us to get to the free-throw line 30 times, knocking down 21 of them We managed to turn them over 34 times, 24 of those coming through steals, 10 combined for Gyselle Rangel and Ashley Cruz. Inside Silvy Salazar got 4 blocks while Andrea Aldape manage to disrupt plenty of their shots.”

The victorious Lady Mavericks were led by the scoring of the one-two punch of Silvy Salazar who took game high scoring honors with 18points and teammate Gyselle Rangel who pumped in 17 points to the winning cause.  Silvy Salazar also led the squad in the rebounding department with a total of 16 boards to give her a double-double on the night.  Andrea Aldape pitched in with 7 points but greatly contributed with 12 key rebounds I this game.  Ashley Cruz registered 5 steals and so did Gyselle Rangel.
