The C.C. Winn Mavericks varsity boys baseball team under the leadership of head coach Heriberto Roiz and assistant coaches Rene Ramirez, Jesus Gomez, Domingo Lopez and Rolando Salinas who are in the midst of a truly hotly contested district race hosted the San Antonio Southwest Legacy Titans on Thursday, April 18, 2019 in a key 7:00 PM District 28-5A baseball diamond matchup at the Eagle Pass ISD Student Activity Center-Polo Moncada Baseball Field. This game was also designated as Parents Night with the Mavericks players honoring their respective parents during pre-game festivities.

The visiting Southwest Legacy Titans tried to spoil Parents Night with a three run output in the top half of the third inning courtesy of three base hits a fielder’s choice and a Mavericks error to take a 3 to 0 lead over the Mavericks.

But the proud home standing Mavericks supported by the famed Maverick Nation in attendance quickly countered erupting with a huge eight run production in the bottom half of the third to wipe out their deficit and take the lead for good in this vital game with JP Ramos leading off the frame with a single, Brandon Villasenor and Jared Roiz drew back to back walks to load the bases, Jorge Romero belted a two RBI single to drive in JP Ramos and Brandon Villasenor, Mario Galvan drew a walk, Miguel Solis followed with an RBI single to bring home Jared Roiz, Jorge Romero then came home on a passed ball, Miguel Solis advanced to second on a an error on a failed pickoff play at first with courtesy runner Rau; Solis scoring on the play, Frank Ballones stroked an RBI single to bring home Miguel Solis, Salvador Lara continued the hitting assault with a single, Brandon Villasenor belted an RBI single to drive in Frank Ballones and Jared Roiz capped off the hitting and scoring parade with solid RBI single to bring home Salvador Lara giving the Mavericks a comfortable 8 to 3 lead over the stunned Titans.

In the bottom of the fifth the mighty Mavericks tacked on a pair of insurance runs with Brandon Villasenor stroking a one out single, Jared Roiz was hit by a pitch, Jorge Romero hit an RBI ground out to bring home Brandon Villasenor, Mario Galvan reached on a catcher’s interference, Miguel Solis stroked and RBI single to drive in Jared Roiz with the 10th and final run of this game to give the Mavericks the well earned 10 to 3 victory over the Southwest Legacy Titans to improve the Mavericks district record to 10-4 and moves the Mavericks into a three-way tie for the district lead alongside Southwest and Medina Valley. The victory also secures the C.C. Winn Mavericks a post season playoff berth with two more district games remaining on their schedule.

Mavericks starting pitcher Jorge Robledo earned the pitching victory with six and two-thirds inning of solid work on the mound before being relieved by relief hurler Jacob Salinas who tossed one and one-third innings of scoreless work on the mound.

Eagle Pass Sports Central congratulates the mighty Mavericks on their victory over the Southwest Legacy Titans and invite the entire Maverick Nation as well as the entire community of Eagle Pass, Texas to make the trip to San Antonio, Texas this coming Tuesday, April 23, 2019 and support the Mavericks as they battle against the district tri-leading Southwest Dragons in a marquee 7:00 PM matchup that has vital playoff seeding implications.
